RM-20 brings the vintage tones of the 1981 Yamaha PS-20 electric organ directly to your DAW. Known for its lo-fi yet mesmerising sound, the PS-20 has been used by Beach House to craft their signature dream pop sound.
RM-20 utilizes samples from the original instrument, enhanced with the ability to adjust the original effects to create authentic yet flexible presets. When combined with effects like chorus, delay, and reverb, these samples evolve into inspiring sounds that spark creativity and new songs.
RM-20 includes sampler patches for Native Instruments Kontakt and Decent Sampler, both usable within any DAW or as standalone applications. The Kontakt patches have been entirely redesigned, featuring a new graphical interface with adjustable settings, modulation control, and integrated chorus, delay, and reverb effects.
Note that these patches require the full version of Kontakt (version 6 or higher), not the free Player version.
The pack also contains presets for the free Decent Sampler player plugin, compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS. This version mirrors the Kontakt interface but substitutes the LFO delay setting with an Autopan effect.
RM-20 also includes DAW-specific patches for Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro X. These patches use the same samples and modulation settings as the Kontakt and Decent Sampler instruments but work right in your DAW.
The Ableton Live patches come in two versions: one for Live 10, which includes ten Instrument Racks for different sounds, and another for Live 11, which combines all sounds into a single Instrument Rack with a Selector feature for switching presets.
FL Studio patches are compatible with Direct Wave, while Logic Pro X patches use the Sampler instrument, formerly known as EXS24.
RM-20² is an updated version of my original RM-20 pack released in 2018. This overhaul features new samples and patches with deeper control over the sound. In the original pack, the PS-20’s onboard vibrato and tremolo effects were baked into the samples, meaning they was unadjustable.
For this update, I modified my PS-20 to disable its effects entirely, allowing me to record clean, unmodulated samples. I then reintroduced the vibrato and tremolo in the sampler settings, which means the vibrato speed and depth can be fully tweaked, or turned off altogether.
The envelopes are also now fully modifiable, allowing organ-style patches to be reshaped into short plucks or the plucked piano-style sounds to be turned into sustained sounds. These updates offer a wider range of sounds that weren’t possible in the original release.
All sounds (other than bass guitar and drums) were made with RM-20 patches.
The RM-20 download includes patches for the following DAWs and samplers:
