Chopped Mellotron choirs, Juno bells, a saturated EDM lead, CS-80 arps, OB-Xa pads and the outro guitar solo recreated from Pyramids.
The full remake, played through in Ableton Live.
Frank Ocean’s Pyramids, from his 2012 debut album channel ORANGE, is an almost 10-minute track in two halves, joined by a slowed-down transition and closed by an extended guitar solo from an uncredited John Mayer. It was produced by Frank Ocean and Malay, with Om’Mas Keith.
This Ableton Live remake rebuilds the chopped Mellotron sample from four M-Tron Pro IV layers, with Juno bells from Arturia Jun-6 V. The synths use Arturia Pigments, CS-80 V4, OP-Xa V and Mini V4, and the transition’s tape-style slowdown is recreated with tempo automation and Ableton’s Shifter. Guitarist Seán Murray recorded and mixed all the guitars, including the outro solo.
Each remake comes as two ZIP downloads: the full Ableton Live project with every track frozen, and multitrack WAV stems for every audio track with MIDI files for every MIDI part.
