Frank Ocean Part Two Remake Projects

This pack contains all three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Frank Ocean Synth Sounds, Part Two article, which are remakes of the songs In My Room, Sideways and Skyline To. Note that the projects aren’t complete songs remakes; they just cover the excerpts as featured in the articles playthrough videos.

These are a diverse set of sounds; In My Room has a classic modern hip-hop beat built around a synth pluck patch that I recreated using Arturia Prophet V. Sideways is taken from Endless and showcases Frank’s idiosyncratic style, with multiple layer synths recreated in Xfer Serum. The Skyline To project recreates the dusty harmonized synth break, with three layers of Arturia Mini V and guitars recreating the section.

I recorded one track of guitar for Skyline To, which I duplicated to create an additional effects layer track. I used a real Roland JV-1080 for the bells in Sideways, but I replaced this with the Roland Cloud JV-1080 plugin in this Ableton Live Project. If you don’t have the Roland Cloud JV-1080, the all tracks are frozen so you can still play and hear the Ableton Live Project without the plugin.
