Ableton Live Projects

Overview

This pack contains four Ableton Live projects recreating tracks from Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85–92: Ageispolis, Pulsewidth, Xtal, and We Are The Music Makers (also available on YouTube). Three of these were featured in my Aphex Twin article.

The remakes use Arturia Prophet-5 V and DX7 V for all synth parts, and original samples in Xtal and We Are The Music Makers. Decapitator and RC-20 Retro Colour were used on the master channel to recreate the cassette-style distortion of the original album. Drum sounds were built from various sample packs and processed to match the original production.

This pack features the Ableton Live Projects for my remakes of Black Car and Lemon Glow, as featured in the Beach House 7 Synth Sounds article.

Synths were recreated using Arturia Mini V, Prophet V, Solina V, Xfer Serum, and Korg Legacy M1. All tracks are frozen for compatibility. The projects reflect Beach House’s layered production style, with quiet drums and heavy reverb and delay. Black Car includes one guitar track; Lemon Glow features five, some recorded through a Death By Audio Echo Dream 2 pedal.

Overview

This pack features the Ableton Live Project for my remake of Beach House’s Beyond Love, as featured in this YouTube video playthrough.

I put together this remake while recreating sounds for my Dream Stereo preset pack, a collection of Beach House synth presets. There isn’t too much processing going on in Ableton Live, I captured most of the effects within Pigments. Four of the synth tracks use Dream Stereo presets from Arturia Pigments, and two of them use RM-20 presets for Decent Sampler.

There are two electric guitar tracks in the project: distorted lead guitar in the first half and clean guitar arpeggios in the second half. For the distorted guitar I used Arturia Dist OPAMP-21 for distortion. For the clean guitar I recorded through a Boss chorus pedal.

This pack contains three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Beach House Synth Sounds article, recreating Lazuli, Space Song, and Wishes.

All melodic parts were recreated using Arturia V Collection plugins—Prophet V, Mini V, Solina V, and B3 V. Drums combine Superior Drummer 3 with drum machine samples. All tracks are frozen for compatibility.

Each project includes guitar recordings, with additional bass guitar on Lazuli and Space Song, all tracked through a Kemper Profiler and processed with effects in Ableton Live.

Overview

This pack contains the three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Chromatics Synth Sounds article, which are complete remakes of the songs Faded Now, Shadow and Toy.

For these remakes I mainly relied on Arturia Mini V3 and Xfer Serum, with the former used for the vintage monophonic leads and basses and the latter used for some more modern sounds. I also used Korg Polysix plugin for the bass plucks in the Toy remake and AAS Lounge Lizard for the Rhodes electric piano sound in Shadow. If you don’t have any of these plugin, all instrument tracks are frozen so you can still use the project even without all the plugins.

This pack contains the three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Com Truise Persuasion System Synth Sounds article, which are partial remakes of the songs Existence Schematic, Gaussian and Privilege Escalation.

I used a variety of soft synths for these remakes, including Arturia SEM V for Existence Schematic, TAL U-NO-LX for Privilege Escalation, and u-he Repro-5 for Gaussian. There’s also some piano in Gaussian, which I recreated using Arturia Piano V2. If you don’t have any of these plugin, all instrument tracks are frozen so you can still use the project even without all the plugins.

Overview

This pack contains four Ableton Live Projects featured in my Daft Punk Discovery Synth Sounds article, covering Aerodynamic, Short Circuit, Veridis Quo, and Voyager.

All synth parts were recreated using TAL U-NO-LX to match the Juno-106-heavy sound of the originals. Aerodynamic includes only the ending synth section; the other three tracks are full remakes.

Overview

This pack contains two Ableton Live projects recreating Daft Punk’s Da Funk and Around the World, as featured in my 20th anniversary Daft Punk Homework Synth Sounds article.

All synth parts were recreated using TAL U-NO-LX, except for the TB-303 sequence in Da Funk. The remake includes original samples used by Daft Punk, such as the Dance Stab and drum breaks in Da Funk and the kick in Around the World. The lead in Da Funk uses bx_greenscream for distortion, but all tracks are frozen for compatibility.

Overview

This pack contains two Ableton Live projects recreating Frank Ocean’s Lost and Thinkin Bout You, as featured in my Frank Ocean channel ORANGE Synth Sounds article.

Lost includes Wurlitzer, organ, and guitar parts alongside the main synth hook, while Thinkin Bout You is built around a layered pad recreated using Arturia Prophet V. Xpand! was used for other sounds, but all tracks are frozen for compatibility.

The Lost project also includes two electric guitar tracks and one bass guitar track recorded through a Kemper Profiler and processed in Ableton Live.

Overview

This pack contains three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Frank Ocean Synth Sounds, Part Two article, covering excerpts from In My Room, Sideways, and Skyline To.

In My Room features a hip-hop style pluck recreated with Arturia Prophet V. Sideways, from Endless, uses layered synths in Xfer Serum and JV-1080 bells (replaced with Roland Cloud JV-1080). Skyline To recreates the harmonised synth break using three layers of Arturia Mini V and two guitar tracks. All tracks are frozen for compatibility.

Each project uses a minimal setup with no more than four tracks, showcasing how much can be done with limited elements. These updated versions expand on the original partial remakes and include mix tweaks for improved accuracy.

Overview

This pack includes three Ableton Live projects recreating Homeshake tracks: Call Me Up, Every Single Thing, and Heat. These were originally made for the updated 2023 Homeshake Synth Sounds article.

Each project features detailed MIDI programming to match the loose feel of the original tracks. Timing has been carefully adjusted by hand to capture the natural groove, especially on parts like the lead in Call Me Up and the synth and drums in Every Single Thing.

The only audio recording is the bass guitar in Call Me Up, processed with EQ8 and compression; everything else is MIDI.

Overview

This pack contains my remake of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, as featured in my Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill Synth Sounds article posted in 2018.

This project uses Arturia CMI V for the lead and choir tracks, with Arturia DX7 V used for the bassline. I used the Aly James VProm plugin for drums; if you don’t have any of these plugin, all instrument tracks are frozen so you can still use the project even without all the plugins.

The synths in this remake were primarily recreated with TAL U-NO-LX, Arturia Prophet-5 V and Arturia Mini V4. The latter two are the new, updated versions of the plugins released in V Collection 9 and X, respectively. I also used Arturia Piano V3 for one track. All tracks have been frozen, so if you’re missing any of these plugins, you can still hear audio from the tracks.

This pack features three Ableton Live projects recreating Kaytranada tracks: Glowed Up, Together, and Vivid Dreams, as featured in my Kaytranada 99.9% Synth Sounds article and How Kaytranada Produced Glowed Up article.

Each project captures Kaytranada’s groove-based style with off-grid MIDI programming, dark basslines, and detailed effects. Glowed Up features a transcribed 808 bassline and stereo chord trick using Ableton’s Utility effect. Vivid Dreams and Together showcase his signature 90s-influenced, funk-heavy production.

The original track relied on layered E-mu Emulator II samples, which I recreated by identifying and processing similar sounds. The project also includes two guitar tracks: Peter Hook’s intro bass line played on electric guitar, and Bernard Sumner’s outro solo, recorded through a Clone Theory, Tubescreamer, and Kemper Profiler.

Overview

This pack features the Ableton Live Project for my remake of Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime, as featured in my article on the song.

This remake features two synth tracks – the main Yamaha CS-80 plucks and the high strings, recreated using Arturia Prophet-5 V. The original song was played live – not sequenced, so transcribing it was a challenge. There are two guitar breaks in the original song, so I recorded some basic guitar tracks using my Gibson Les Paul into my Kemper Profiler set to a Fender Princeton model; I then recreated most of the tone using Ableton Live’s EQ8 and Delay effects.

This pack contains the Ableton Live Project for my full remake of Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. It’s a faithful reconstruction of the original 1988 recording, rebuilt from scratch using modern plugins and minimal processing.

The core sounds are a mixed of simple analog synth sounds recreated in Arturia Prophet-5 v and Jun-6 V, and FM sounds recreated using Arturia DX7 V.

Overview

This pack contains the Ableton Live Project for my full remake of Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears, updated to use the Arturia Prophet-5 V plugin.

The project features layered DX7 V factory presets with added chorus, MIDI drum tracks using drum machine samples, and extensive guitar recordings including rhythm and lead parts. Processing is done with Ableton effects, plus Arturia Chorus DIMENSION-D and Dist OPAMP-21. Reverb is handled by a single Valhalla Vintage Verb send track.

Overview

This collection contains three Ableton Live Projects featured in my Thom Yorke Anima Synth Sounds article, recreating excerpts from Dawn Chorus, Last I Heard, and Twist.

All synth parts were made using u-he Repro-5. The Dawn Chorus project has been updated for improved accuracy and includes two versions: one with a master MIDI track and one with split, frozen tracks for compatibility without Repro-5.

Overview

This pack contains the Ableton Live Project for my full remake of Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ In Motion, from the 2010 film The Social Network. Featured in the Trent Reznor Synth Sounds article.

The project covers layered bass sounds, intricate sequences, and multi-layered SID-style arpeggios, with a clean, dry mix true to the original arrangement.

GForce Oddity 2 was used for the bass and arps, and there are five electric guitar audio tracks including eBow and distorted guitars.

Overview

This pack contains the Ableton Live Project for my full remake of Vangelis’ Tears in Rain, from the Blade Runner soundtrack, featured in my Blade Runner Synth Sounds article.

The project replicates Vangelis’ free-tempo performance using tempo automation, with additional automation on filters and volume. A tape noise sample is included on track 9 to emulate the background noise of the original—mute this track if you prefer a cleaner sound.
